Colloquium: How the Universe Became Smooth and Flat

The universe appears remarkably smooth and flat, but why?

The Institute for Advanced Studies is honored to host Professor Paul Steinhardt, Albert Einstein Professor in Science at Princeton University, as a Lowy Distinguished Guest Professor.

As part of the Physics Department Colloquium, Professor Steinhardt will deliver a lecture, titled "How the Universe Became Smooth and Flat", in which he will examine one of cosmology’s most profound questions, how the universe achieved its large-scale uniformity, and discuss whether the inflationary model truly resolves this mystery, or if alternative explanations are needed.

   Sunday, 28 December 2025, 14:00

Where: Melamed Hall (6), Shenkar Building

Light refreshments will be served before the colloquium.

The lecture will be conducted in English and is open to the public.
