Abstract

We discuss the hydrodynamic version of Novikov’s multivalued functional and a modification of the perfect fluid by it. The construct closely resembles the Abelian version of the Wess-Zumino functional, commonly applied in field theories with chiral anomalies. The deformation exhibits the chiral anomaly and the current algebra. Additionally, we discuss the hydrodynamic analog of instantons and related topological invariants and their consistence with Onsager’s semiclassical quantization of fluid circulation.
