Professor Judah M. Eisenberg Memorial Lecture: "New results from the LHCb experiment at the LHC"
Professor Vincenzo Vagnoni, Spokesperson, LHCb experiment, CERN, Geneva, Switzerland
Professor Vincenzo Vagnoni is an Emilio Segre Distinguished Lectures in Physics for the academic year 2024/2025.
Abstract
The LHCb collaboration at CERN is one of the largest and most mature international physics collaborations in the world, with 1785 members from 102 institutes in 24 countries. The collaboration has so far published 768 physics papers in peer-reviewed journals, covering a wide range of topics including CP violation in beauty and charm decays, QCD spectroscopy, gauge boson production and properties, heavy ion and fixed target physics, and others. In this lecture, the importance and scope of flavour physics will be briefly discussed, together with an introduction to the LHCb detector. Some highlights of recent relevant physics measurements will be given and future prospects will be outlined.
