Senior professors by special appointment are distinguished researchers from leading academic institutions worldwide, who receive an appointment at the rank of Full Professor at Tel Aviv University for a period of three years and commit to visiting the University once a year. Senior professors by special appointment are appointed due to their remarkable achievements and academic prominence in their respective fields.
Senior Professors by Special Appointment may be invited for a period of several weeks to months, as coordinated with the hosting unit, and are expected to deliver several lectures during their stay.
During their visit, Senior Professors by Special Appointment are welcome to pursue their own research, collaborate with University colleagues, or participate broadly in the academic life of the campus.
The allocated budget for each visit is up to $5,000 for reimbursement of expenses (excluding honorarium). These guests will be hosted administratively by the Institute for Advanced Studies.
Nomination: Candidates proposed for this track must be senior scientists of high reputation, serving as full professors at universities abroad (or holding an equivalent rank at research institutions abroad), or those who previously held such a rank.
The proposal for nominating senior professors for a special appointment requires the approval of the submitting faculty’s appointments committee. After this approval, the proposal shall be submitted to the Institute for Advanced Studies through an online form.
The proposals will be reviewed by the Head of the Institute for Advanced Studies, the Vice President for International Affairs, and the Rector, and will then be submitted for approval by the University’s Upper Appointments Committee. The appointment will be valid for three years and may be extended.
