Seminar: "Modeling of Advanced Materials and Structures in the Age of AI"

How can AI-driven multiscale modeling transform the design of advanced materials and structures?

The Institute of Advanced Studies is pleased to host Professor Wenbin Yu as part of the IAS Fulbright–TAU Senior Scholars program.

Professor Yu will deliver a lecture titled Modeling of Advanced Materials and Structures in the Age of AI as part of the School of Mechanical Engineering Seminar. The talk will address the growing complexity of modern engineering systems, which rely on advanced, anisotropic, and heterogeneous materials whose behavior spans multiple length scales. Professor Yu will present the Mechanics of Structure Genome (MSG)—a paradigm-shifting framework that links microstructure directly to structural performance while remaining compatible with classical design tools.

The lecture will further explore how emerging AI and machine-learning methods can overcome persistent barriers such as computational cost, limited microstructural data, and accessibility for non-experts—paving the way for faster material down-selection, more reliable structural predictions, and broader use of advanced modeling tools.

   Monday, 26 January 2026, 14:00

Where:  Room 206, Wolfson Building

The seminar will be conducted in English and is open to the public.

Light refreshments will be served before the seminar.
