Research and Areas of Expertise

Daniel E. Fleming is an Assyriologist and biblical scholar specializing in the Hebrew Bible, ancient Near Eastern history, and the socio-religious context of second-millennium Syria and first-millennium Levant. His research bridges Assyriology and biblical studies, integrating textual, archaeological, and visual sources to reconstruct the social, political, and religious life of ancient societies.

  • Social history of Emar, Syria, through legal and ritual texts
  • Political and scribal traditions in Late Bronze Age Syria
  • Comparative studies of Israelite and Judahite traditions in the Hebrew Bible
