Abstract:
A representation of an abstract group is its realization as a group of linear transformations. We introduce fundamental results in the representation theory of compact groups such as Weyl’s unitarian trick and Schur’s lemma. We will then explain how these results are applicable to questions ranging from the design of deep neural networks to cryo-electron microscopy.
