The Distinguished Lectures Series was established to promote academic excellence at Tel Aviv University by bringing internationally renowned scholars for short-term visits across six core scientific fields. Each field is represented by its own distinguished lecture program:
- Emilio Segrè Distinguished Lectures in Physics
- Yuval Ne’eman Distinguished Lectures in Geophysics, Atmosphere and Space Sciences
- Joshua Jortner Distinguished Lectures in Chemistry
- Distinguished Lectures in Mathematics
- Distinguished Lectures in Pure Mathematics
- Saul J. Farber Distinguished Lectures in Medicine
In Physics, the Distinguished Lectures Series also includes several named memorial lectures that honor leading figures in the field - such as the Yossef Dothan Memorial Lecture, the John Bahcall Lecture in Astrophysics, the Rashba Lecture, the Azbel Lecture, and the Judah M. Eisenberg Memorial Lecture - which serve as both academic highlights and tributes to scientific excellence.
Distinguished Lecturers are selected for their global standing and their significant contributions to cutting-edge research. During their one to two week visits, they deliver a series of talks - ranging from departmental seminars to widely attended public lectures - designed to enhance scholarly exchange and deepen international academic collaboration at Tel Aviv University.
